2:15  A "modest proposal" to fund the maintenance of trees, trails, and open space - Declining government revenues have resulted in a reduction of maintenance for street trees, parks, school playgrounds, trails, and greenbelts. We are exploring methods of funding and doing the work that will earn the support of our citizens and elected leaders
2:30  Presentation on the Citizen Forester program and other Kern County initiatives
3:00  Walking tour of Renegade Park
3:30  Adjourn

Directions to the Bakersfield College Horticulture Department, Renegade Park:

Take Highway 99 to the Hwy 178 east off ramp.
Follow 178 until the Mt. Vernon off ramp. It's about  10 miles or so.
Turn left on Mt. Vernon.
Follow to the first LEFT turn after Christmas Tree Lane.

You may park along the street in the staff parking.  Parking passes will be available at the Hort Lab which is on the little hill on the right.
Just walk up the driveway on your right and you'll see the gate to go into the park.

Introducing the Citizen Forester Program!

The San Joaquin Valley Urban Forests Council, TreeFresno, the City of Clovis, CalFire, PG&E,  and the Fresno County Master Gardeners have collaborated to create and implement a program to train citizens in the greater Fresno/Clovis area in Urban Forestry Practices. 

The program will train participants in tree biology, tree and site selection, species identification, proper planting and pruning techniques and basic tree care. 

The program will consist of 4 classes, starting February 26th 2011, that will combine both classroom presentations and hands-on experience.
