Recertification

A Certified Urban Forester must renew his or her certification every three years.

To maintain active certification, a person must comply with the applicable continuing education requirements, which include successfully completing a minimum of thirty (30) Continuing Education Units every three years. A minimum of six (6) units must be obtained from each of the four major domains: Plant Science, Infrastructure, Environment, and Management.

Within sixty (60) days after every third anniversary as a Certified Urban Forester, a nonrefundable processing fee of $100 will be required (if currently a member of CaUFC / $150 for nonmembers) in order to recertify.

While a number of CEU opportunities are posted on our website, CEU’s can be earned from a wide variety of sources, including but not limited to night courses, workshops, conferences, etc. Easy-to-use, self-paced CEU programs are also available for purchase in the Certification Store.

The CaUFC Certification Committee may at its discretion change continuing certification requirements. Should such a change occur, all holders of any affected certification will be notified of those changes and be given six (6) full months to comply with those changes.
