The mission of the Los Angeles Orange County Urban Forest Council is to optimize the urban and community forests in theLos Angeles Basin by planning and promoting sustainable policies and practices to achieve comprehensive regional management for the benefit of the region’s communities and ecosystems.

Building on the recommendations from the California Urban and Community Forest Summit, and funded through a contract with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the California Urban Forests Council worked with urban forestry stakeholders in the Los Angeles Basin to create the Los Angeles Orange County Urban Forest Council in 2001. The LAOCUFC is comprised of local government agencies, private organizations, non-profits, and individuals. They meet quarterly to network, share information, and discuss projects that will improve and expand the urban and community forests in the Los Angeles Basin. In 2002 the LAOCUFC voted to become a chapter of the California Urban Forests Council to become more connected with the statewide urban forestry community and expand their opportunities.
