Building
on the recommendations from the California Urban and Community
Forest Summit, and funded through a contract with the California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), the California
Urban Forests Council (CaUFC) worked with urban forestry stakeholders
in the San Francisco Bay Area to create Bay Area Urban Forest
Ecosystem Council (BAUFEC) in 2001. The BAUFEC is comprised
of local government agencies, private organizations, non-profits,
and individuals. They meet quarterly to network, share information,
and discuss projects that will improve and expand the urban and
community forests in the nine county San Francisco Bay Area. In
2002 the BAUFEC voted to become a chapter of the California Urban
Forests Council to become more connected with the statewide urban
forestry community and expand their opportunities.
