The Mission of the San Joaquin Valley Urban Forest Council is to promote the proper planning, planting, and management of urban and community forests to maximize the quality of life for every resident and visitor in the San Joaquin Valley.

Building on the recommendations from the California Urban and Community Forest Summit, and funded through a contract with the California Department of Forestry (CDF), the California Urban Forests Council (CaUFC) worked with urban forestry stakeholders in the San Joaquin Valley to create the San Joaquin Valley Urban Forest Council (SJVUFC) in June 2000. The SJVUFC is comprised of local government agencies, private organizations, non-profits, and individuals. They meet quarterly to network, share information, and discuss projects that will improve and expand the urban and community forests in the San Joaquin Valley.  In 2002 the SJVUFC voted to become a chapter of the California Urban Forests Council to become more connected with the statewide urban forestry community and expand their opportunities.
