Join us for this half-day seminar exploring tree risk and preferred management practices presented by the California Urban Forest Bay Area Council and the Association of Bay Area Governments.

Arborists, city maintenance supervisors & their maintenance staff, environmental consultants and planners will benefit from the 78 combined years of experience in tree management and tree law the presenters represent. Speakers will be covering topics that will help you better manage your tree assets with confidence.

Last October’s fire storms in Southern California are a reminiscent of our Oakland Hills fires where we learned the hard way that fire safe landscapes & programs need to be strong components of comprehensive risk management plans. Sam Gonzales, Assistant Maintenance Superintendent of Landscaping & Community Forestry, retired after 21 years with the City of Vallejo will discuss the development and management of Fire-Safe communities.

Joe Bates, Vallejo’s current Assistant Maintenance Superintendent of Landscaping & Community Forestry, will be covering work that both he and Sam have implemented together while managing Vallejo’s unique urban forest. For over 20 years Joe has been making determinations on tree removals and welcomes the opportunity to share his process.

Barri Kaplan Bonapart will be addressing a variety of case histories, rulings and precedents on trees issues that will raise awareness regarding this dynamic asset with which we all work. Ms. Bonapart is one of California’s most knowledgeable practitioners in the area of tree and neighbor law. She advises homeowners, arborists, attorneys and public entities regarding personal injury and property damage caused by trees, trespass, nuisance and encroachments. She represents parties in disputes about views, tree removal, and threats to life and property from trees, boundaries, fences, insurance coverage, and the interpretation of local tree ordinances. Ms. Bonapart also provides mediation and arbitration services to parties in dispute. She has authored numerous articles and is a featured speaker nationally on tree and neighbor law.
